Do I need anyone else to help me lay the floor? Not usually. If you have to repair or clean your sub-floor you may need help
e.g., pulling up carpet, securing/strengthening floor sheeting, etc Natural Stone Flooring in General Why choose natural stone over ceramic tiles? It really is a personal choice. Both natural stone and ceramic tiles have their benefits, limitations and appeal. We love real stone for its long life, its warmth, the fact that it is natural and doesn’t contain any chemicals and for its timeless beauty (it can be rejuvenated to increase its luster, unlike a ceramic tile). Does Natural Stone cost more than ceramic tiles? Generally yes! Though the better quality "stone-look" ceramic tiles are similarly priced. Cheap stone tiles, like cheap ceramic tiles maybe problematic in the long run.
Yes. Stone can be laid onto most existing floors including wooden floorboard, wood sheeting, ceramic tiles and concrete. Can stone be laid onto magnesite flooring? Yes. Given the flooring in is reasonable condition. Please note that it is very important
that you do not disturb (by wire brushing or sanding) older magnesite as it is known to
contain asbestos, which may pose a significant health risk! What about sealants and the on-going maintenance of natural stone flooring? Most natural stone does require a sealant to be applied upon installation. Natural stone requires (or more so "likes") minimal ongoing care to maintain its luster, which is, of course, a part of its beauty! What is a sealant? A sealant is an impregnator, designed to be absorbed by the stone to form a protective barrier, preventing or reducing staining. Are there environmentally friendly sealants available? YES. There are good natural based sealants available. These are also more family and pet friendly than the zylene based sealants, which are commonly sold by flooring retailers. Can I order natural stone on-line? We don't recommend this! It's very important that you see the stone that you are purchasing to ensure that you are happy with the colour and texture. Speak to a natural stone flooring retailer who stocks a good range of stone for specific answers to your queries on particular stones. It's important to see the actual stone and talk to a retailer at the same time! Our important section on "Questions To Ask Your Flooring Retailer", which is a part of your consultation, will help you to think and talk like a professional... saving you countless hours and alot of money!
