This age-old technique is absolutely bomb-proof when you have a substrate that is prone to moving, is cracked or is uneven. Not only is the ‘Hessian and Membrane Technique’ extremely effective in preventing cracks from appearing in your new stone flooring, it actually absorbs some of the movement, reducing the risk of further damage! I use this technique regularly when laying stone floors on surfaces such as:

• Concrete showing hairline cracks
• Ttimber flooring
• Ceramic tiles
• Vinyl and cork flooring

And this is the technique that works every time! Using this technique to prepare your substrate (existing flooring) also saves you a lot of money! How you may ask? Well, a cement/sand based adhesive is used to secure your stone tiles to this prepared base so you don’t have to use expensive flexible adhesive ...a real money saver for you!

The ‘Hessian and Membrane Technique’ keeps the flexibility just above the substrate where it is most functional.

This technique is cost-effective, proven and incredibly reliable! Though you won’t find it talked about much as it is not a money-spinner for suppliers of fixatives.
